City and Police Department Statement
The Lakeville Police Department’s role has consistently been to serve and protect the entire Lakeville community, including residents, visitors, workers, business owners, students, worshippers, public safety officers and many others. That commitment has not changed. Race, age, gender, culture, immigration status or any other personal characteristic does not factor into how individuals are valued or treated by local law enforcement. Members of the Police Department take an oath to serve everyone in our community.
The Police Department’s relationship with federal law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has historically been limited to assisting, when requested, in matters involving criminal activity. Civil immigration enforcement is not something the Lakeville Police Department has been involved in, either in the past or at present.
If law enforcement activity by any agency were to evolve into a broader public safety situation within Lakeville, the City’s role would be to help ensure the safety of everyone involved — including bystanders, peaceful demonstrators and public safety officials carrying out their duties.
We understand that widely shared videos and public messaging can raise concerns. Residents who have questions or are worried about something they observe are encouraged to reach out to the Lakeville Police Department or the City directly. We remain committed to transparency, communication and maintaining the trust we’ve built with our community.

Utility Resources
- Xcel Energy suspended disconnections for residential and commercial customers in Minneapolis and St. Paul, effective Jan. 27.
- Effective Feb. 5, we extended that suspension to all 7 Metro counties, through the end of February.
- Customers do not need to call the company to request this disconnection protection. However, their bills will continue to accrue during the suspension, so we urge customers to call 800-895-4999 so we can connect them with flexible payment arrangements and energy assistance.
- Currently, we offer one late payment charge forgiveness per year to any customer who requests it, so customers who contact you and indicate impact from recent immigration actions, can contact us at the number above and request a late payment charge removal for their account.
- Our customer service agents have been instructed to treat immigration actions, safety concerns and loss of income as extenuating circumstances. This means they can offer more flexible pay arrangements, with down payments lower than the usual 10%.
- For our percent-of-income affordability programs where customers are normally removed if they miss 2 payments, we are suspending removals through end of February as well.
- We understand customers may be reluctant to share information right now. We emphasize any personal information shared with an Xcel Energy customer service representative is protected by the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission rules, and the Company’s own Privacy Practices at https://mn.my.xcelenergy.com/s/privacy.
- Xcel Energy uses bilingual agents and a Language Line (3-way interpreter service) to provide customer service in all major languages spoken in the Twin Cities Metro.
- Customers in need of assistance should reach out to Xcel Energy Customer Service at 800-895-4999, or go to https://mn.my.xcelenergy.com/s/billing-payment/manage-bill.
